2018 Utah Intercollegiate Legislature Delegate Application

Benefits of Participation:

  • Learn more about how the legislative side of state government functions
  • Meet and learn from state legislators
  • Interact with other civically-minded undergraduate students from across the state
Delegate Participation Expectations:
  • Each delegate must co-sponsor or submit one relevant and realistic bill for consideration and debate
  • Each delegate will be expected to reach out to at least one of their State Legislators (Senator or Representative) regarding their participation in UIL
  • Each delegate should be familiar with parliamentary procedure

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester for the 2016-2017 academic year in a participating institution of higher education
  • Preferred GPA of 3.0, minimum eligible GPA of 2.6
  • Must be available to participate full-time in the UIL General Assembly in Salt Lake City from March 29-30

Application Procedure:

Prepare the application materials for online submission:

  1. Statement of Interest
    Outline why you would like to be a part of the Utah Intercollegiate Legislature, what community issue or issues you are passionate about, and what you identify as your qualifications and strengths for a selective civic engagement program.  (app. 250 words)

  2. Resume

  3. Letter of Recommendation
    At least one letter must be from a college level professor, instructor, or advisor.  The letter can be for another leadership or professional development program that was prepared in the past year.

  4. Transcript
    Must be current through summer 2017.  Can be a printout from University records.
